So, there's this girl at work. I don't know her name, I don't know what department she works in, but I do know that she dresses FANTASTICALLY. She has an unfortunate shape, but she works with it, and always looks so put together. Which really stands out at Mystic, because most people dress in schlubby, gigantic sweatshirts.
Anyway, I was in the bathroom today, washing my hands, and Fashionable Girl walks out of one of the stalls. She says "Heeeeey!" like we are old friends (we have never spoken before), and follows that up with "I love your sweater! You always have the cutest outfits!"
Needless to say, I pretty much had a happiness seizure. I paused probably a beat too long, and said, "You know what's funny, is I've been thinking the same thing about you!" Then we had a good laugh about how we like to either go all out and put the effort in, or throw on a hoodie. But it looked like she was as pleased to be complimented as I was!
I guess the moral of the story is, rather than secretly coveting someone's shoes, or obsessing over their nail polish color, or even admiring from afar the way their desk is organized, don't keep it to yourself, TELL THEM! I cannot tell you how much it made my day to have this girl tell me I have the cutest outfits. I told, like, 5 different people about the conversation, and now I'm blogging about it.
Girls spend so much time being mean to each other and tearing each other down. It's about time we start throwing around some love.
That's a cute story!! I couldn't agree with the message of this post any more! At one point I always found myself thinking nice things about people but never actually saying them and then I would get mad at myself for not saying it. So I now make it a daily point to make sure I say the nice things that cross my mind and try to avoid saying the mean things, even though sometimes they both come out! I'm still working on that...
ReplyDeleteI miss you! A compliment for you: I'm sure your hair looks adorable right now, because your hair is always adorable!
